Please don't get me wrong - I've been a very vocal proponent of GE for many years (and have been doing it since 1980 so I'd be a hypocrite if I wasn't) but I differ from Souxsie's comments on the mortality rate of GE mammals. It varies from species to species but generally it's unpleasantly high. Most are aborted spontaneously but many make it to term and need to be killed (euthanised is such a euphemism).
The anti-GE lobby have never really understood. The issue with GE mammals is not genes escaping over fences and enjoying rampant recombination in the wild, it's animal ethics pure and simple.
